Rosacea: Incurable but can be concealed
Posted 23 Oct 2008 - 05:43 by sapphire
What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a skin disease that affects people of all color, belonging to all regions of the world. It is particularly common in USA.
Rosacea is characterized by redness on prominent areas of face and body like cheeks, nose, forehead and neck.
Aggravated forms of Rosacea causes pimples on affected areas.
The cause of Rosacea is not known, and so is its cure. But it can be controlled. Doctors prescribe different medications according to the severity of the condition. Some people report benefiting from treatments.
But we have yet to see a definitive cure.
How does Rosacea affect its victims?
Rosacea does more psychological damage than physical damage because of the appearance of the victims. Rosacea sufferers usually suffer from a phobia called ereuthophobia.
This leads the victim to avoid situations where his or her condition is more likely to be exposed, so the person develops a fear of getting into those situations. The psychological effect of this fear is immense and can cause a permanent change in social behavior.
This is the reason why most of the victims try to seek an immediate refuge from embarrassment rather than going for a long term cure.
Most Rosacea sufferers will try to conceal their redness in any way they can. This can be more harmful as excessive use of cosmetics may further aggravate the condition.
How to conceal Rosacea?
It is easier for ladies to cover up Rosacea affected skin than it is for men.
Cosmetics are made for female skin and so they are harmful when applied on male skin. But there are some cosmetics that are made specifically for this purpose and can be used by both men and women.
The following is a list of products that show best results when used for covering up Rosacea.
Dermacolor Body Cover cream:
Based on my research on the internet, I have quite a few product names in mind but what tops my list is Kryolan's Dermacolor Body Cover cream.
Kryolan is basically a theatrical cosmetics company but their camouflage range beats other products in covering skin problems like Rosacea and skin marks like tattoos.
This cream is high in pigment and is completely odorless. It doesn't need any make-up like application and fixing powder and is smear proof and water proof too.
Just apply it as you apply any other cream and you are ready to go. It is meant for application on larger areas of the body but can be used on face as well. There is no harm in using it on Rosacea affected face as it is mentioned on the product guide. The product guide also mentions it usage to conceal Vitiligo or Leukoderma as well.
But it would be wise not to use this product on Rosacea with acne as it may aggravate the acne further.
So applying this product was easy, now how to take it off?
just wash the applied area with soap and its all gone! Its hard to find a comparable camouflage cream.
There is another camouflage product from Kryolan called Dermacolor Camouflage Cream. It is meant for face only and differs in application, it needs to be fixed with a fixing powder otherwise it won't be water proof and smear proof. It is more suitable for ladies.
ArtDeco Body Camouflage cream:
A little known product from a little known company, ArtDeco Body Camouflage is very useful for Rosacea sufferers.
As stated on their website, it is meant to be used for covering varicose veins, couperose, port-wine stains, birth marks, pigmented moles and tattoos. They don't mention Rosacea, but it is bound to be beneficial for it. It is also suitable for covering larger areas of body.
The best thing is this product does not need a fixing powder just like Kryolan's Dermacolor Body Cover. It is waterproof and smear-proof without fixing powder.
It is safe for sensitive skin and it doesn't discolor clothes.
The only drawback of this product is it is available in very few light colored shades, so it is suitable for people with fair complexion only.
If you want to cover Rosacea, this must be your second option after Dermacolor Body Cover cream.
